Public Health Commission Mission
The mission of the County of Los Angeles Public Health Commission is to review, study, advise and make recommendations to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, the Director of Public Health and Health Officer, the Chief Deputy of Public Health and Department of Public Health Programs on all matters related to public health as established by Ordinance 4099 of the Administrative Code 1.

Public Health Commission Role
The Public Health Commission plays an integral role in the work that DPH conducts through their inquiry, oversight, review, and recommendations. The Public Health Commission members are active in their respective roles in their communities, lending a voice to DPH’s work that supports the Department’s mission to protect health, prevent disease and promote the health and well-being of all persons in Los Angeles County. The Public Health Commission examines the management of delivery of public health services to all cities and unincorporated areas in Los Angeles County as well as the management and response to emerging public health issues. This provides a necessary level of accountability and oversight for DPH, the Board of Supervisors, and the residents of Los Angeles County. The importance of the Public Health Commission meeting in a public forum is to provide critical feedback to each Public Health Program with respect to how well each program is meeting its mission with the resources they have and to determine their vulnerabilities and successes. Additionally, the Commission provides feedback to Directors of various DPH programs as to the effectiveness of their messages to the community that reach beyond the information provided within public health clinics.
